How much does an east-side rental house cost in Cleveland?

Across our East Side portfolio, rents typically range from about $700 to $1,800 a month, with a median around $1,000, depending on bedroom count and condition — most homes here are 2- and 3-bedroom houses or duplex units. For citywide context, Zumper's July 4, 2026 report puts Cleveland's overall median asking rent at $1,250/mo (2-bedroom around $1,100, 3-bedroom around $1,350), while RentCafe's July 2, 2026 report on professionally-managed apartment complexes shows notably higher averages — a gap that mainly reflects newer apartment buildings versus the older rental houses that make up most East Side inventory.

Getting around Cleveland's east side

The RTA Red Line runs through the east side from Downtown's Tower City hub out to Windermere station in East Cleveland, and the HealthLine bus rapid transit route runs along Euclid Avenue connecting Public Square to University Circle. The Blue and Green light-rail lines serve the Buckeye-Shaker corridor directly into Downtown. Note that the eastern half of Cuyahoga County, including much of Cleveland's east side, sits in the region's lake-effect "Snow Belt," so winter driving conditions can be more pronounced here than on the lakefront west side.

Section 8 and vouchers on Cleveland's east side

Every home we manage on the east side accepts Housing Choice Vouchers (Section 8) and is HUD-inspection-ready. Cuyahoga Metropolitan Housing Authority (CMHA) administers the local voucher program and accepts preliminary applications year-round, with placement by periodic lottery rather than strict first-come-first-served. Keep in mind Ohio has no statewide source-of-income protection law, and the City of Cleveland itself does not currently require landlords to accept vouchers — though every home we manage does. Read more in our Section 8 housing guide, or see our page on Section 8 houses on the east side for voucher-specific detail.
