1 Bedroom Houses for Rent in Cleveland, OH
True 1-bedroom detached houses are the least common home size in Cleveland's rental market — most standalone rental houses start at two bedrooms. A small number of 1-bedroom homes and units exist in our own portfolio, typically renting around $700 a month, and a 1-bedroom apartment is usually the faster path if bedroom count matters more than a detached house.
Are there 1-bedroom houses for rent in Cleveland?
They exist, but they're uncommon. Across our own Cleveland-area portfolio of 90+ rental homes, the bulk of our inventory is 2-bedroom (51 units) and 3-bedroom (26 units); true 1-bedroom homes make up only a couple of units at any given time. Most Cleveland landlords who own standalone houses configure them with two or more bedrooms, since that's how the existing early-1900s housing stock was originally built.
If a detached house with one bedroom is a hard requirement, availability will be limited and can take patience. If what you actually need is simply a smaller, lower-cost place to live, a 1-bedroom apartment will typically give you far more current options than a 1-bedroom house. Either way, book a showing and tell our team what you're looking for — we can point you to whichever current listing fits.
How much does a 1-bedroom house cost in Cleveland?
Within our own Cleveland portfolio (snapshot, July 2026), the rare 1-bedroom units we've had available have rented around $700 a month — at the low end of our overall rent range. For broader market context on 1-bedroom housing generally (mostly apartments, since that's the bulk of 1-bedroom inventory citywide), Zumper's July 2026 report lists a $1,195/mo median for 1-bedroom units, while RentCafe's July 2026 report shows a $1,451/mo average for 1-bedroom apartments in larger, professionally managed communities (690 sq ft average).
The gap between our $700 figure and the broader apartment-market numbers reflects the difference between an older, standalone rental house and a managed apartment building with amenities — both are real prices, just for different kinds of housing. Whichever figure applies to your search, always confirm the current asking rent on the specific listing, since our own numbers shift as availability changes and the citywide reports above are updated monthly by their respective publishers.

Where to look for a 1-bedroom home in Cleveland
Our rental homes are concentrated on Cleveland's east and southeast side — Slavic Village (ZIP 44105), Collinwood (44110), Glenville (44108), Fairfax and Central (44104), Hough (44103), and Buckeye-Shaker (44120) — with a smaller number on the west side around Cudell/Detroit-Shoreway (44102), Old Brooklyn (44109), and Ohio City/Tremont (44113). A 1-bedroom unit, when one is available, can turn up in any of these ZIPs.
These neighborhoods are reachable by RTA bus routes, the Blue/Green light-rail line into Buckeye-Shaker, and the HealthLine bus-rapid-transit route along Euclid Avenue connecting downtown to University Circle. If a 1-bedroom house isn't currently listed, our 2-bedroom house options are the next size up and far more commonly available, or you can browse the full houses for rent in Cleveland pillar page.
Section 8 vouchers for smaller households
Every home we manage, including any 1-bedroom units, accepts Housing Choice Vouchers (Section 8) and is HUD-inspection-ready. CMHA (the Cuyahoga Metropolitan Housing Authority) sets a payment standard for each bedroom size on its Housing Choice Voucher page; a 1-person household's CMHA income limit is currently $34,800 (effective April 2025).
CMHA accepts preliminary voucher applications year-round with no closing date, though placement runs through a random selection process rather than a strict first-come, first-served list. Read our full Section 8 housing in Cleveland guide for the details, and apply online once you've found and toured a home.
1-bedroom house vs. 1-bedroom apartment: which to search first
If you specifically need a detached house — for reasons like wanting your own yard, no shared walls, or off-street parking — expect a longer search and be ready to act fast when one is listed, since our own 1-bedroom house inventory is only a couple of units at a time. If your real priority is a smaller, more affordable place to live rather than the house format itself, searching apartments will open up far more current listings.
Either way, the same basic tenant-screening steps apply: a government-issued photo ID, proof of income, and rental history or references. We don't offer a no-screening path for houses or apartments, but Housing Choice Vouchers are welcome on every home we manage, and we can talk through a co-signer if part of your income is harder to document.
- Choose a house if: you want a yard, off-street parking, or no shared walls
- Choose an apartment if: bedroom size and price matter more than the house format
- Either way: photo ID, proof of income, and references are needed to apply
- Vouchers: welcome on every home we manage, house or apartment
